BACK ON MY CASE

Well I've been walking now
For a long long time
In the pouring pouring rain
Lady luck, she has been so cruel
And it's driving me insane
Seen nothing in front
Seen nothing behind
Seen nowhere to go
For all of my troubles
And all of my time
I got nothing to show
I can't even trace
Where I went adrift
And when my spirits start to lift
The world gets back on my case

Well the yearning
That's the hardest part
You've got to put your faith in time
When you're staring at the same old clock
You can hear each hour bell chime
People ask me why I've changed so much
And I tell them what is true
That I've been digging the backbeat
And playing the blues

And you can search
For signs of solace
But you can't read what they say
Wicked love
Has made you blind
And you're down and washed away
And I can't even trace
Where I went adrift
And when the sand it starts to shift
The world gets back on my case

People ask me about my life and such
Lord, I tell them what is true
That I've been digging the backbeat
And playing the blues
